"Scalene" is the follow-up to Dies' 2007 debut album "Aesthetics of Violence."
Dies has traded its Skinny Puppy and KMFDM influences in for a dose of New Order and Depeche Mode. The crunchy, industrial edge that was the centerpiece of the first Dies effort is now a sort of delightfully ugly stain on what seems to be an otherwise poppy, new wave sort of record.
It may just be that Josh Dies has finally made good on longstanding threats to find out what Phil Collins meets Nine Inch Nails might sound like. The answer is: awesome.
