Store FAQ

  • What about the Nomenclature?

We understand that there are as many variations of the nomenclature used as there are teachers. We initially looked into the idea of designing the mat with blank lines so the teachers could insert their own version, for example ‘pepperoni pizza’ or ‘rattle rattle dump truck’. However, extensive research amongst teachers indicated a strong preference for wording, whatever it may be. All teachers agreed that it was of benefit to students to understand that there is more than one way to approach each rhythm. The simplicity and clarity of the mats is a great attraction for the children (and the teachers!). Some teachers have decided to change and use the Twinkle Mat version, some use it as a first verse and use their preferred ones as a second verse, and some do the reverse. There are lots of options, and we know you will find the right way to make it work for you. At some point in the near future there will be a non-English world version without any terminology, as well as an expansion of our design options. However, the basic purpose of the Twinkle Mat remains reinforcing good posture and foot placement. We are delighted that the Twinkle Mat is part of your child or student’s practice regimen.
  • Why buy a Twinkle Mat when you can make a paper mat?

This seems like a reasonable question and I have the answer. I can assure you that had I not walked the walk before you, I would never have worked as hard as I have to bring this product to you. Here are a few reasons: • All paper versions do not provide a safe and solid foundation upon which to stand. • They can be quite slippery depending on your flooring material. • Poster board tears, fades and is too big for them to carry. • It curls and does not lay flat. • Manila folders really are too small. • Your or the teachers artistic handiwork is not always clear. • Our mat is a bright and exciting place to practice. • You are not skimping on anything else, why would you on this very important component?

  • What is the Twinklemat Story?

As with many companies, ours began in an odd way. As a teenager, I lived in Australia with my family and my little cousin started taking Suzuki Violin. I was impressed then, and in the back of my mind always knew I would give the same opportunity to my children. Fast-forward twenty three years (and it was fast...) I now have a child that has started Suzuki. As so many of you have done and may be asked to do, I dutifully drew the foot chart, along with every other parent in the class. By the end of the first week, half the boards looked awful. Some kids could never see their foot placement and they were always bulky and cumbersome. I would have happily paid for a better option and knew there must be a better way. Then one day, I decided that I wanted to give back to the Suzuki community and do something good for my family. So I set out by having the best design for the mat developed, and that was only the beginning. Many many many hours, days, weeks, months later, I opened the store. I am a happy Suzuki parent, a SAHM who is crazy about her family, and I have a little online store that helps indulge them all. You have found your way to the method and this store. I hope that both fulfill your expectations. It is just me for the most part. I do everything, so you will be cared for as soon as possible. If you have a suggestion for ways I can improve my service, please email me. I sincerely thank you for shopping with us, ask that you tell all your friends and other Suzuki parents (you are my best advertisement and I am most grateful), and hope you remember to savor each day of practice with your children. They are the makings of treasured memories. Best Wishes, Monica
