Add ability to add tracking numbers to shipped orders?

I searched for a previous post suggesting this, but couldn't find one.

I don't know if the "Mark As Shipped" button on the sellers side automatically sends out an email notifying the customer their order has shipped.

If it it does, cool :)

Is there a way to add the ability to allow the seller to copy and paste a tracking number into an input box so the customer gets a tracking number with their email notification?

With all the different shipping methods that are used, you could even auto link the tracking number in the customer's shipment notification email to a Google search since Google will automagically figure out what shipping method was used and give the user a link to the shipping company's tracking page.

If there's no automated email letting the customer know the order has shipped, maybe this could be added with the above features :)

    If you use Paypal to create a shipping label for the order, it will send an email with tracking information to your recipient.

    As far as I know, "Mark As Shipped" hasn't sent any emails to my customers.

    @SakuraDesign yes, that's true. But I don't use PayPal to create shipping labels, I use Endicia :)

    That's why I was figuring since there's already a "mark as shipped" option that an input box could be added there to provide a tracking number to the customer pretty easily.

    Just a suggestion that I thought might help others like myself :)

    Unfortunately "Mark as Shipped" is only a bookkeeping feature on the sellers end.

    @Adam so it doesn't send out any email notification to the buyer when the product is marked as shipped?

    Hmmmm, I think we definitely need this feature. Customer satisfaction is a must.
