What are you listening to?

Jon posted November 08, 2009 23:00 ago

Right now I've got a queue of stuff to listen to that's a mile long on Lala.com.

New stuff by...
- Tegan & Sara
- Flight of the Conchords
- Phoenix remix album
- The Swell Season

And trying to catch up on a few others including The Whitest Boy Alive. Also, I REALLY like the new Kings of Convenience.

What about you?

    Recently, a lot of:
    - Envy on the Coast
    - Jonezetta
    - Kevin Devine
    - Monty Are I
    - Anchor & Braille
    - Bright Eyes

I still need to get on it with picking up the new T&S. There may be a possible record store run this weekend!

    Any recommendations?

    Doomriders isn't too bad.

I'm still on the search for the next Avenged Sevenfold, or the next Rise Against.

I haven't really been in a Music Listening mood lately. Not sure why. But nothing has been very interesting to me lately.

Except for I always have Stu's Song from the Hangover stuck in my head.

    Thrice - Beggars

Can't stop listening to this album!

I queued up a bunch of music from All Songs Considered's Best of 2009 list into my Lala.com account and I'm making my way through it while I work on the website.

Nothing totally jumping out at me yet. Definitely not wowed by Grizzly Bear or St. Vincent. I'd listened to them both in the past, but wanted to give them another try since they come so highly recommended. Meh.

See the list for yourself. NPR's All Songs Considered's Best of 2009: http://www.npr.org/blogs/allsongs/2009/12/ballot_results_npr_listeners_p.html

I cant get away from house music lately. I have an infatuation for horrible pop songs, lol. It's probably all the subliminal messages hidden under the catchy toe tapping beat that is luring me in. J/k

My tape deck has been pumpin out the hottest jazz fusion!

I got a beta invite to http://Rdio.com and I'm really enjoying it. I've discovered loads of great artists there. It's like an all-you-can-eat buffet of music. Here's some of the tunes at the top of my list right now that I've discovered through Rdio.

    - Mumford & Sons
    - Tokyo Police Club
    - Sleigh Bells

I have 20 invites to Rdio if anyone wants to check it out.

Also, our friends at http://www.grooveshark.com have a great Internet radio service you should try.

  • Copasetic said August 03, 2010 23:03 ago

Cool, looks like a lot of us have similar taste in music. I've jotted a few of those down that I don't know yet and am off to check them out.

And ya, Grooveshark is SO RAD. It definitely helps speed up that otherwise slow and monotonous 8 hour workday.

Is Rdio for use with cell phones?

Yeah Rdio has an iPhone and Android app. You have to be on the $10/mo plan to use it though.

Ah, Horse Feathers! All of 'Words Are Dead' and 'Thistled Spring' are on a looped play list on my iTunes, playing currently.

In addition to Horse Feathers lately:
    - Arcade Fire
    - Owl & Penny
    - Talbot Tagora
    - Imogen Heap
    - St. Vincent
    - Jónsi
    - La Roux
    - Dunian
    - Regina Spektor

There is still a never-ending multitude of musicians I have yet to get around to.

I went to the Treasure Island Music Festival yesterday (I live in SF), and got to see a few of my favorites:
    - Superchunk (so awesome!)
    - She & Him
    - Ferocious Few
    - Surfer Blood
    - Broken Social Scene
    - The National

We left after that, but Rogue Wave and Belle & Sebastian played the last two spots in the night, both of which I'd seen before. I've actually been following Rogue Wave for years, because they're a local band, and I love them!

I'm also listening to a ton of great music through my network on Rdio.com - such a great site (and awesome that I have it all with me on my iPhone, too).

I love this thread... I'm a huge music fan, hence my whole line: where geek meets rock 'n roll! :)
