Shipping costs question

kstart posted April 05, 2012 22:44

Sooo I'm not really sure how the shipping costs work I guess? I had it set as $2.50, with .50 set as the with additional items. Someone bought 2 each of 2 separate listings, same shipping category, and it charged her $2.50 for shipping...?

Also, is there anything else I can do with shipping costs? A lot of my items are $2.50 shipping, and until you buy 3-4 of them, weight is still $2.50 so I don't want to charge more, but I want to charge enough when it should be, like the above situation should have been $3 shipping.

    create different shipping classes

I was confused about this too. I ultimately chose free shipping. Now, I'm just wondering if I will use the FREE shipping promo for $2.99 mo/ with storenvy or simply indicate it in the description box of each piece?

A different shipping class for every listing? That seems... pointless. I made a shipping class for "washcloths" (which is what this was) for how much it costs to ship 1. She bought 4, of 2 kinds so there were 2 listings, both in the "washcloths" shipping. The shipping cost is the same for 1-3, but the 4th brings it to $3 instead of $2.50.

    Hey there!
I understand the shipping can be a bit difficult to understand. Maybe this will help. Also there is a video below if you want to check that out. Let me know if you are still confused.

Shipping Classes (Different ways to ship) = first class, priority, everywhere else

Shipping Groups (Product Categories) = Shirts, Jewelry, Art

Just watched the video and it helped more then you will ever know! Thank you so much! Now I can go in and try this myself and it will make it much easier for me to get things done.

Okay, change that just a little bit.
Understood the video but the shipping setting is being a total pain.
So going to watch the video again to see what it is I am NOT doing right.

My question is: how does shipping EVEN WORK? Like how do I get the product shipped? Does storenvy do some of the work for it, or do I need to physically ship it through a company?? Sorry, I'm brand new to this.

You package the item. Label it (can print through PayPal or handwrite). Bring it to the post office. Pay if you didn't pay through PayPal. And let the post office handle the rest of it. No company needed, but storenvy doesn't do any of it for you.

    Okay, thank you (:

hey how can i change the 'tshirts' shipping class to something else is does it matter?

when you place a price for additional items does it go for all the items in your store or just the ones in the same group?

Is there any way to sort shipping by weight? I already have two separate groups for light items and heavier things, but I want to have additional items free - until it tips the weight over into the higher weight limit. How can I do this? The difference between the two categories is $10, so I don't want to be out of pocket if the weight group changes. Given most countries have flat rates for certain weight ranges, especially for international postage, this would really help out a lot (may also stop the complainers who don't like to ship internationally too!)

i agree with moonwyrm, a shipping option by weight is absolutely needed!!
and it would make everything so much easier.

it is a pain to calculate the costs and neither want to overcharge (scares customers away) nor pay for part of the shipping myself (might get expensive for me).

currently i am trying to work my way around this with the shipping classes, but it is so difficult. i need help for how to do this the best way... :/

I would like to be able to set each category with the following:
USPS priority mail | USPS Overnight | US Postal Service (regular mailing no tracking).

I can not seem to do this so they can select a shipping method at check out. Does anyone know if this is possible? If so, can you let me now how? Thanks so much!
