So many viewers, yet no sales

Shellum posted April 28, 2012 10:31

I have a lot of viewers everyday, but still not had a sale yet.
Does anyone know what I could do? Any tips :) ? Or else I guess its all about the patients too :)

  • laronje April 28, 2012 17:27

    me too

  • moonlightbath April 28, 2012 19:27

Same issue here. I wonder if it's because it's the end of the month and people are paying bills? Hopefully we all get sales soon!

  • aknackforthat April 29, 2012 00:26

sadly you are not alone-but as i have been told just advertise and do your best to pull people in -good luck to everyone on making there 1st sale-i hope to some day.

  • ligasartwork April 29, 2012 00:37

I'm wondering, too, but I think - the more items you have, the more possibilities for someone to come and take something. So we are looking forward to add and add things :)

  • MamazzBoutique April 29, 2012 02:32

    Same here ):

  • Kitsunerei April 29, 2012 13:43

Yeah, I get a lot of hits, but very few sales. I wish I could peer into the mind of those people to see what made them move on.

  • moonlightbath April 29, 2012 14:40

    @ kitsunerei I totally agree!

  • madelineloving May 08, 2012 22:44

Noticing this article a little late.. xD but I'm having the same issue! I get tons of views but i have made very few sales, and friends I've spoken to say how great everything is and how they'd totally buy it, but they never do.. maybe it's the economy? -___-

  • MissAnti May 09, 2012 01:14

I suggest making sure your shipping prices are reasonable. The automatic shipping prices are sometimes far above what it would actually cost to ship. I use this:
    http://postcalc.usps.com/

I can say from buying experience that sometimes I'll be really serious about buying a product, but be turned off by the shipping cost when I go to check out.

  • adrianafiv May 09, 2012 03:36

I can not tell you how to sell more. I wish I knew how.

  • mynx May 11, 2012 00:26

I get heaps of views but not many sales, I put it down mostly to being in New Zealand.

  • rebecca_store May 11, 2012 03:53

I guess that storenvy is just full of sellers rather than buyers? LoL

  • MuseHorse May 11, 2012 05:40

Work on making your shop look as good as possible. You may have lots of people click a link and view your page for a few seconds, then leave before buying anything because it doesn't look appealing. There are gobs of articles online with information on how to take better product photos. Browse successful shops and take note of what you like about their layout, product images, etc. Don't just copy any one shop, but look at lots of different ones. You'll notice a few similarities and get a feel for what looks good and works.

I may look at a lot of stores but if the layout looks really tacky or the photos are poor quality, I usually don't consider making a purchase. Presentation is important.

(All that said I know the presentation in my own shop needs a lot of work!)

  • MiwaRain May 11, 2012 06:04

Trends seem to be the biggest influence but most of all it's timing. Holiday season is where it picks up, end of financial year has abysmal sales and younger shoppers currently going to university doing exams makes a surprising impact on the decrease in sales. Just hang in there. Think of your store as a freshly planted seed that just needs to make it through the surface.

  • TrishGager May 11, 2012 07:51

Heck, I am just trying to get the traffic in to look!! Wondering what a "heap of views" looks like! :) http://bitz2glitz.storenvy.com/

Come check out this new facebook group @ https://www.facebook.com/#!/groups/449200295094350/ A place to promote and advertise your Storenvy and new items, add any ideas or suggestions to others just starting out!

  • minimunchkins July 22, 2012 00:34

hey guys. so I checked out some of your stores, and I have a bit of advice. now, while this may seem harsh, please take it as constructive criticism! these are things I 've learnt over time, since I've been on etsy and big cartel before. at the moment my store is very small, but it will be growing <3
    ADVICE FROM HERE!
so, my advice to you, is to
1.think about your products before you list them. it's no good just throwing everything that's sellable onto your site, you may want to ask a few people around you if they'd buy/wear the item. after all, you want your store to have the best reputation you can get!!
    2. YOUR PHOTOS NEED GOOD LIGHTING! I cannot stress this enough, the photos are the first impression of your store. I have a theme going on in my photos. I get a tray of butter beans, and just put the things i'm going to be listing on there, take the photos, and bam! it's also worth making a light box, they make your photos look way more proffesional.
    3. check out other shops with similar products to you. find out what sells and what doesn't, then baase your products around that.
    4. I have noticed, from some of you who wholesale some of your items, you use the original sellers picture and slap your logo over it, rather than taking your own photo. not only are these pictures pixelly, but they are actually copyrighted, no doubt. so save yourself the hassle and worry, and take your own photos. they look better, anyway!
    5. BE ORIGINAL! there are so many people on storenvy making bracelets from beads and hemp, why not make your own beads, or make signature sets/combos?
    6. NO ONE HAS A DECENT HEADER!!! at least make your website LOOK GOOD! my background is just a stock image of some yellow parchment paper! if you need some help with html, either search the forums or ask me. trust me, it makes your site look far less 80's!

  • ElectricAlex July 22, 2012 00:47

I am having the same problem but I'm still working on getting good images for my products. I'm guessing it just takes time that's all.

  • Kodeekins July 22, 2012 13:35

It takes time! And LOTS of hard work. :) Some of my items are viewed up to 800 times before they are sold.

  • pinpincreations July 22, 2012 14:51

This has been the worst month I've ever had (even worse than my first month), is really getting me down!

  • Eha July 22, 2012 15:39

pinpincreations i feel you. hang in there. we all have good and bad day, or month or yr :)

  • pinpincreations July 22, 2012 17:36

Hey minimunch, how di you get a product slider onto your site? Looks great!

  • Shells42 July 22, 2012 18:16

i have the same problem, i'm just glad i have so many views in a short amount of time. i've just been making sure i have some presence on fb, with a page, and tweet occasionaly. nothing to spamy but maybe more than i would normally, without a shop.

Just post friendly reminders with pictures and the like, and fancy descriptions/stories about both the craft and whats for sale, at least get the word out. we'll get lucky at some point :)

  • JulietsJems July 22, 2012 19:04

I have been here about 5-6 months. No sales and very low views. I do very well on my other two sites.

I think storenvy is new and needs to be promoted. I use facebook, twitter, and Pinterest. I use business cards on my other two sites so I think I may need to get some for storenvy as well, but since I am doing well elsewhere it may not be worth the investment at this time to buy business cards.

My average views here a day are 10. On my other sites it averages to be about 60...

  • minimunchkins July 22, 2012 19:12

pinpin, I found a thread on here with how to add that slider! email me if you want help, we wouldn't want to clutter up this thread, unless if you guys want to know how too?

  • minimunchkins July 22, 2012 19:12

  • minimunchkins July 22, 2012 19:15

actually, forget that. have a look at this thread, and if you need any extra help with the size, not sliding etc, just ask :D make sure you put the entire code in, and it goes in the html, not css! http://www.storenvy.com/topics/2866-product-slider-help

  • MsKittenVixen July 22, 2012 19:55

Loved the slider post! Thanks for posting about it ^_^

  • minimunchkins July 23, 2012 03:31

welcome! it really does give your store that proffesional look ^-^ also, thanks for subbing to my newsletter! it means a lot :D

  • BlueWavesDesign July 23, 2012 05:32

It takes great patience. I agree with those who say that here on storenvy most people are sellers. It needs a lot of advertising on social networks, but it requires too much work and performs poorly. Any other suggestions?

  • Kodeekins July 23, 2012 07:08

It takes time. Lots, and lots, and lots of time, lots of hard work, networking, advertising - and telling everyone you know, buyers and sellers, about Storenvy - how else will people find out about the site? Tell your friends, tell your friends to tell their friends, buy gifts from Storenvy and tell people where you bought them. :)

  • Shellum July 24, 2012 09:51

Check out my new design :) I am really happy with it! what do you all think?

  • Sparkly_Chic July 24, 2012 13:32

    Same here

Especially I'm living outside the US where Twitter is not very popular and I'm too shy to let my friends know I'm running a small shop... I have no idea how I can reach out to more like-minded people!

  • jennybug July 25, 2012 12:20

people favorite items but then dont buy! that is what gets me..price point maybe?

  • minimunchkins July 25, 2012 15:40

I'm definitely going to join the christmas spectacular, since christmas is the time when people are really looking for little knick-knacks like the things I sell :D

  • JustforLittles July 25, 2012 15:50

I'm newish, what is the Christmas spectacular?

  • Kodeekins July 25, 2012 15:56

Spectaculars are site wide sales. :) All the stores that chose to join are banded together on a page.

  • Shellum July 25, 2012 17:03

How do you join the christmas spectaculars?

  • ElectricAlex July 25, 2012 17:41

I'll join the Christmas Spectacular too! I've been telling all my friends about my store, posting on tumblr, posting on facebook and whatever else I can. I've been here for about 2 weeks I'd say and my average page views are about 20-30 a day, so I know people see my store; hopefully when Christmas does pick up I can make at least some sales :3

  • minimunchkins July 25, 2012 18:16

shellum, when it starts, it'll be all over storenvy's front page. all you have to do is go to store admin>promote>spectaculars. when any spectaculars are open, all you have to do is click join. good luck guys!

  • SocialiteHair July 25, 2012 20:22

@minimunchkins i have yet to see any "Spectaculars"... when do they normally happen??

It took me about 2 months to make my first sale. I promote on Craigslist, Tumblr, Twitter, I have a reg FB page for my store & a Fan page, I even put a video on YOUTUBE! I use the FORUMS on here too.

It took me a while but after my first sale I got 4 more right after :) Make sure your store doesnt look to "i did it myself" lol use a custom banner. If you sell something celebs use incorporate celeb pics on your store. For example check out my store. I believe thats what appealed to my customers.

  • Pijenn July 25, 2012 20:36

I had a hard time selling online until I used Storenvy. I noticed my first 5 months I made sales, but now things are slowing down. I'm definately looking into more items. I do sales at conventions at I am constantly facing the views but no buys in person. People will come up and tell me how cute/wonderful my work is but I get comments like "but I already bought this, have too much of that". It's discouraging, but I keep trying to offer my customers the cutest things hoping one day they'll crack!

The best thing you can do is just keep building your store to look professional. If you can, invest in a domain name. You can get one online and host it on Storenvy for like $5 a month. It'll help people remember your brand. I bought one after having to tell people so many time what my shop's name is and having them say things like "lol just write it down". It's alot easier to say and remember polkadot cute dot com than polkadot cute dot storenvy dot com. Or if your name is longer than two words.

  • Shellum July 25, 2012 20:38

    @minimunchkins - thank you!

  • minimunchkins July 26, 2012 02:34

Spectacualrs happen very occasionally, during major holidays/shopping seasons. the last spectaculars I know of were the christmas one, and the black friday spectacular for items on sale.

  • Kodeekins July 26, 2012 10:56

Pijenn is right - my views have quadrupled after buying a domain name!

  • minimunchkins July 26, 2012 14:41

that's a good idea, I'm considering getting one myself. @shellum, I'm considering buying one of your bracelets! they're really nice designs :D

  • Shellum July 26, 2012 15:30

minimunchkins - thank you! :D That be really nice of you haha! Also , if you would rather have a different color on somehting, just contact me on my store to place an customized order! :D

  • strawberrygomez August 06, 2012 16:24

For stores like ours, I believe reaching to the public like art and crafts demos. I completely forgot what it was called. But you buy like a table to show off what you do and ppl come and look at it. Kind of like a fair/bazaar. I know someone who did this and got loyal customers. I wish I had enough money. I wish there was another way like open houses I just dont want to do it myself, so email me if you are near gwinnett or fosyth county in Georgia, to talk about this. Thanks.
