A bit discouraged!

HeavenlyHell posted May 14, 2012 18:42

I've had my store up for a few months, try to engage on facebook and twitter. Though I have lagged on my blog (only 3 followers). What am I doing wrong? Or not doing?? Lately I have received very low views on my store page, an zero feedback from facebook followers. Haven't sold in a while too....kind of discouraging and makes that small voice in my head say "Close Up Shop". Anyone else have trouble or could lend a few words of advice?

My advice is to do what you're doing! Stay involved, and don't give up. Physical businesses take about 5 years to get off the ground, and online anywhere from 2-3, possibly more. People think it's immediate, but it takes a lot of time and effort.

In the end, don't worry about the slow-down, the people who are still coming will stick with you :)

Thank you! I'll certainly keep at it. Sometimes I begin to think my products are too strange from some people. But I have fun making them, some one has to end up liking them sometime. Lol. Thank you for your encouragement! Good to know I'm not scaring anyone away and that it's just the normal flow of business.

No problem! I took a look at your stuff and I love it! I really like the fascinators, and will probably get one when I can afford it. I also really like the bow sets you have on facebook -- maybe it's time to post a few more of those? ;)

I do really need to add some more bows to my store! I make them and end up wearing them all for myself. Lol. Can you believe you are the first to actually have interest in the Creepshow fascinators?!? Hopefully I will get around to making more prohibition themed stuff. :)

I LOVE the Alice pendant (I've been a huge Wonderland fan since I read the book when I was itty bitty!) And once some more of my stuff sells I REALLY want it if it's still available by that time, lol!

The Fascinators are weird, but cute! I personally wouldn't wear them, but I know a few people that would!
Don't get discouraged, even though I know how easy that is. Just keep truckin' girl! It takes a loooooooooong while to get kicked off the ground ;) Don't give up!

It takes time. Weeks, months, sometimes a year or more to get a start-up company functioning. Read this article:

Definitely what everyone else said. Never give up because your art is worth it. That is what I've learned. I don't expect my shop to have steady business for quite some time but I have faith that the few sales I have made will continue to help me to grow and get more and more business as time goes by because I provide great customer service and a product they enjoy. They will remember that and come back and bring their friends too. The other day my shop got over 400 pages views simply because I uploaded a few pictures to Wanelo.com. You have to put major effort into it every chance you get. Take care.

    Great article Cody!

Keep your chin up and your eye on the prize, nothing that is worth it is ever easy.

I understand were you are coming from. I had the same issues. I think that the key is to identify your customer.

What are the characteristics of your customer?
Where do they shop? What websites, blogs do they follow? (you need to get on the blogs and send them to top bloggers.

One way I am doing this is to throw a fashion show. Even if people don't purchase they will still know more about my line. They will tell other people and they might follow my blog or follow my twitter

Don't be discouraged! As everyone says, it does take awhile.

The way I did it is I have a target audience and I cater to them. Find groups/people through social media outlets that like the type of products you create (through: blogs/facebook/twitter/tumblr/ etc) and advertise there. That's how I do it. :)
