Printing Comics

glenoneill posted November 05, 2010 17:56 ago

Does anyone have some good resources for independent comic printing? Aside from the guerilla "home made" type that is.

I've heard good things about Ka-Blam. I have also heard people like http://comixpress.com/ but I don't have any direct experience with either.

Comix Press looks pretty good. Thanks for the links. Anyone know of any overseas printing services? I've heard you can get printing in China pretty good.

This may not be what you're looking for, paper and layout-wise, but it's a really cool service I don't think many people know about:

    MagCloud: http://www.magcloud.com

    It's only .20/page & no minimum order!

I've been thinking of using them for my linesheets/wholesale catalogs... but beyond that it makes me want to design my own magazine! :)

Here's some of the graphic novels printing with them currently: http://www.magcloud.com/browse/category/comics_and_graphic_novels

I use ka-blam to print my comics, and have ordered a number of comics from others through it (Of all sizes)and the print quality is fantastic. I havent printed anything with Comixpress, but have ordered stuff through them, and their ad on the back of one I ordered sorta just smudged off and ruined the back of the comic. That was about 2 years ago, now, though (And that might have been an anomaly at that).

Magcloud is really really good. A little more expensive, depending, but great quality. Ive ordered a few things from them and once they forgot to put my apartment number on the envelope and once they realized it they notified me about their mistake and overnighted me my magazine for free.

I used Ka-Blam for one of the books I'm currently selling. I did a lengthy blog post about it here:

There's some input from some Ka-blam employees in the comments section that may be of interest as well.

I would suggest using Bang Printing @ www.bangprint.com
They do alot of really high quality stuff.

And also Active media Printing @ www.activemediaprinting.com
Very good for mass quantities, superb quality, specializes in comics.
