• Do you accept orders placed outside of the US?

• How long will it take to receive my order?

  Each order placed will be meticulously constructed and packaged by hand. Once shipped most domestic orders take anywhere from 2 to 10 business days to arrive depending on the efficiency of your local postal service. International shipping delivery times may vary between 2 and 12 weeks.

• Why do you only offer 3 color choices?

  Color availability is directly determined by what colors LEGO® makes available for the various parts needed to construct the designs. In many cases there are some parts that simply do not come in many colors. In some cases they are available but are rare and difficult to procure. That said, contact Free The Brick at [email protected] if you would like to explore commissioning an order with a custom color (higher prices and longer fulfillment time will apply).

• Should I have my order glued?

  In general, LEGO® parts stay together well on their own, however some designs are delicate and can come apart easily. Nothing that a little click couldn't fix. It is certainly more flexible to receive the designs unglued as you can use the pieces for your own designs. Gluing the parts definitely make the designs more durable, though not to the point where they can be handled roughly. With certain designs that contain hinged parts gluing may be the only way to keep the hinges from moving, especially in the free standing models (the wall mounted models have mount points at strategic locations such that they can keep their shape even when unglued). If you are uncomfortable with making an occasional adjustment, gluing may be preferable. Free The Brick prefers unglued models but that's primarily because dealing with glue is messy!

• How does wall mounting work?

  Designs that are wall mounted look the same as solid models from the front. The models expose several holes at the back that are used as mount points to a wall. Each wall mounted order will come with two essential components: specially designed nails to ensure a secure and flush connection of the model to the wall, and a template to assist in the perfect placement of the model. The included nails have a LEGO® connector glued to them such that when nailed to a wall will expose just the connector and the model can be clicked into place to be truly flush with the wall with no visual indications of how the model stays up (to see this, reference the last picture of each listing). The nails should work well with most walls, though walls made of dense materials like brick and concrete may need a pre-drilled hole. An enterprising person can also use a wire cutter to cut the nails to a shorter length for use with cork boards or other surfaces that do not need as deep a hole. The models are light so do not need a deep hole to provide enough support. Each model will come with a paper template that displays the outline of the model and the precise location of each of the mounting points in the model. One simply tapes the templates to the wall at the desired location, nail the nails where indicated, then rip off the templates and the models should connect to the wall perfectly. The templates also contain guides that show letter ascender and descender heights (such as when using a g that dips below the baseline or a b which hits the cap height). This will ensure perfect horizontal alignment when spelling a multi-letter word. The templates also contain vertical guides for suggested kerning (the space between letters).

• Wall mounting or free standing?

  This is primarily a style preference and there is no price difference between the two. There are two issues with freestanding models, however: 1) For most fonts (Times included), some letters dip below the baseline (which is the horizontal line where most letters rest). If the word you are trying to spell has none of these letters then freestanding models should look fine. Words with letters that descend below the baseline will not look right when freestanding. Wall mounting them is the option. 2) The shape of some of the letters are not balanced so that when trying to freestand they will tip over. To freestand those letters, one would need to design a custom LEGO® base that anchors the letter.
